Thought for the Day, June 29, 2020

Posted by Traci Smith on

Thought of the Day: Empathy. Whether it was the woman at the well, or Zaccheus up in a tree, or the one who touched his robes, Jesus showed empathy to others. He had an ability to see things from others’ perspective. This is a trait and a skill that we can nurture and develop. I really appreciated THIS article about empathy. I like the way that it treats empathy as a skill to be practiced. What will you do for your empathy workout?

Double Up Challenge: As of the writing of these e-notes (9:30 on Saturday night) we’ve raised $4740.00 to be doubled and sent in to our community. EPC has pledged up to $5,000, so if you’re waiting to get us to that hump, there are two more days! Go to www.elmhurstchurch.org/double-up

Prayers: We send prayers to Kathy Thompson, who is having a biopsy today. Chris Leonard and family, on the death of The Rev. Larry Leonard. Jan Palmer, who is recovering from hip surgery. We also lift up joys and concerns of our fellow EPC members. Hop on a Zoom call on Wednesday at 7pm or Sunday at 11:30 a.m. to check in with your people!

Sermon Series: Ready for a challenging series? Check out what’s coming up:  July 5- Black Lives Matter, July 12- No Human is Illegal, July 19- Love is Love, July 26- Women's Rights Are Human Rights, Aug 2- Science is Real, Aug 9- Water Is Life, and Aug 16- Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere.

Sabbath Days: Pastor Traci will be out of the office on Tuesdays until further notice. You can always reach me in an emergency, but I’m going back to one full day off per week. (During COVID, I felt like I was taking a little time off, here and there, but never one full day at a time. I decided to go back to this, and Tuesdays is a good, albeit weird, day off!)

Office Hours: In general I will be in the office from 10:30 - 2:30 (and often beyond) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, but it’s best to give a ring or text at 630.643.6045 if you’re wanting to be sure to see me. Jasmyn is remote for the next two weeks, and Emily is in and out as well. When you come in the building, please wear a mask, sign in at the sign in table, and use the sanitizer provided.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
