March 4, 2022: E-News Updates

Posted on

Hi EPC Friends and Members,

Here's my "3-2-1" for this week...

3 EPC Happenings

  1. THIS SUNDAY we'll be kicking of a Lenten Sermon Series called "Come, Follow Me" about pivotal moments in the life of Christ. It's also a communion Sunday. We'll be talking about baptism this week. Special thanks to the Worship Committee for all of their work in creating an artful tableau in front of the church! It will grow and change each week!
  2. This Saturday is the Elmhurst St. Patrick's Day Parade. The hospitality + mission committees have teamed up to offer hot chocolate and temporary tattoos to parade-goers and to share the joy of our community with those walking by. Help share the good news about EPC! If you'd like to join in the fun, please come to the EPC parking lot at 11:00 am on Saturday! All are welcome!
  3.  It's not too late to join us on Zoom on Wednesdays at noon for Bible Study! We're studying the book of Mark! Join us as we complete chapter 2 this week.

2 Interesting Links

  1. Wednesday, March 2 was Ash Wednesday. I talked about memento mori. One of the beautiful things about having a live-stream is that you can catch it now if you missed it. The link is HERE
  2. I had the great honor and opportunity to present about Faith Practices to our denomination, the PCUSA a few weeks ago. The Presbyterian News Service wrote about it HERE.

1 Thought

“Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. . . .The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.”

— Seneca, Moral Letters, 101.7b–8a

There you have it! Our 3-2-1 for the week. See you Sunday!

It's not the same without you there,

Pastor Traci

The season of Lent officially began on Ash Wednesday. This Sunday is the first Sunday of Lent and we will be beginning our Lenten Sermon Series, Come Follow Me: A Disciples' Journey Through Lent. This series looks at defining moments in Jesus' ministry and helps us deepen our commitment to Christ as we discover what it means to follow Jesus and serve in the work of Jesus.

There is a lot going on in the life of the church in the next few months. Please make sure you mark your calendars for all of our upcoming events:

March 13 --  Pride Planning Meeting after Worship
April 17 -- Easter Sunday + Children's Event
April 24 -- All Church Future Visioning 9am - 3pm
May 7-8 -- Art in the Park
June 5 -- Pentecost Sunday

Our new directory is LIVE and we need your help to create your online profile. All you need is the email address you have on file with the church (probably the one you are getting this email sent to!). If you aren't sure, contact Cristi. Our Pastoral Assistant, Kaleigh made this helpful video for walking you through the steps of how to create your own profile. You will need to go HERE to create your login and update your information. If you have questions, contact Cristi or Kaleigh.

Join Pastor Traci Wednesdays from 12-1 PM for a drop-in bible study on Zoom. We will be exploring the Gospel of Mark, asking questions like “What does the text say?,” “What does the text mean?” and “How does it call us to live?” This week we'll be focusing in on Mark 2. Use the zoom link below to join in. All are welcome!

The Nominating Committee is hard at work finding our new slate of Elders and Deacons. Do you know someone who God might be calling? Please fill out this NOMINATING FORM. All responses will be kept confidential and passed on to the nominating committee.

Don't forget! You can worship with EPC via livestream! We are grateful for our behind-the-scenes team who makes it happen every week. The link is below!

An update to our Afghan Family Support: The family of 11 was able to get Afghan passports, visas to safety in Pakistan, and a flight to Islamabad, Pakistan. Thanks to your contributions, we are able to help them with housing expenses in Pakistan while they wait for paperwork to be processed. Please consider making a contribution by giving online, text to give, or placing a donation in the offering plate noting “Afghan Family Support.”

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated items for our Community Kids Event this past Sunday! Along with Boy Scout Troop 82, Friends from Elmhurst, and our own EPC family, we  were able to put together150 bags for folks working towards recovery! With Dr. Jodie Dewey's vision for filling a need and our families' generosity, we did it! See some pictures of our event below.
