Congregational Care

Congregational Care is a shared ministry of presence, prayer, and compassion. It is one of the ways we live out Christ’s call to love our neighbors and care for one another.

Care at EPC includes:

  • Prayer and spiritual support
  • Pastoral visits and check-ins
  • Support during illness, hospitalization, or recovery
  • Care during grief and loss
  • Communion at home or in care facilities
  • Practical support during difficult seasons
  • Ongoing connection through our Deacons

If you or someone you love would benefit from care, we encourage you to reach out. You never have to wait until a crisis to ask for support.

Pastoral Care

The pastor of EPC is available to listen, pray, and walk alongside you through life’s transitions and challenges. Pastoral care may include:

  • Sharing joys or concerns
  • Navigating illness, grief, or life changes
  • Spiritual or theological conversation
  • Discernment and prayer
  • Referrals to professional resources when appropriate

Pastors are not typically licensed counselors; however, they are committed to offering compassionate presence, spiritual guidance, and support. The pastors work closely with the Deacons to ensure care is shared and sustained throughout the congregation.

For urgent concerns after hours:

Please contact the church office at 630-834-7750. Your message will be forwarded to the pastor and the office administrator.

You may also contact your Deacon directly, who can then communicate with the pastor as needed.

(Please do not assume someone else will notify the church on your behalf.)

The Deacons

The Deacons of Elmhurst Presbyterian Church serve as the hands and heart of Christ’s care within our congregation.

Each member of the church is connected to a care share group led by a Deacon, whose role is to:

  • Maintain regular, caring contact
  • Offer prayer and encouragement
  • Help coordinate meals or support during difficult times
  • Share needs with pastors when appropriate
  • Strengthen relationships within the church family

The Deacons serve quietly and faithfully, helping ensure that no one walks alone.

If you are unsure who your Deacon is, or would like to be connected, please contact the church office at 630-834-7750.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is one of the beautiful ways care is expressed at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church.

Handmade with love and prayer, each shawl is a tangible reminder of God’s presence, comfort, and peace. Shawls are given to individuals who are:

  • Experiencing illness or recovery
  • Grieving a loss
  • Celebrating a birth or significant life event
  • Going through a difficult season
  • In need of comfort and prayer

Each shawl is created prayerfully and offered as a sign that the recipient is held in God’s love and in the prayers of this congregation.

If you or someone you know would be comforted by a prayer shawl, please contact the church office or include a request in the form below.

If you are interested in participating in the Prayer Shawl Ministry, we would love to welcome you — no special skills required, just a willing heart.

Joys and Concerns

We believe in sharing both joys and concerns in community.

Each week, with permission, joys and concerns are shared so that the congregation may pray and offer support.

  • The Joys & Concerns list is shared each Tuesday at 2:00 PM via email
  • Requests may be submitted by phone or through the form below
  • Confidential requests are always respected

If you would like prayer without your concern being shared publicly, please indicate that in your request.

Your pastors and deacons want to hear from you and walk with you.

You may call the church office at 630-834-7750 or complete the form. A pastor or deacon will follow up with you soon.

(If this is an emergency, please call the church directly.)

When Should I Reach Out?

Any time you need care — including:

  • Hospitalization or surgery
  • Grief or loss
  • New baby or family transition
  • Loneliness or stress
  • Spiritual questions or prayer
  • Homebound communion
  • Or simply needing someone to listen

If you’re wondering whether your situation “counts,” it does.

You Are Not Alone

At Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, we believe God meets us through one another.
It is our privilege to walk beside you — in faith, in hope, and in love.
