Thought of the Day, June 25, 2020

Posted by Traci Smith on

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Sometimes it feels like we’re in a spiritual desert. We seek God, but we don’t find God. I wonder about this promise in the beatitudes that when we thirst and hunger after God, we will be filled. Sometimes that promise feels near, and other times it feels farther away. The journey, sometimes, is the destination.

VIRTUAL COFFEE HOUR: Don’t forget to join us for virtual coffee hour on Sunday at 11:30. Zoom link is HERE.

OFFICE HOURS: I’ll be in the office this week from 10am - 2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (I won’t be in on Wednesday). Someone (including me) may also be in at other times. Call ahead if you want to stop by or know if someone’s here. Remember to sign in and wear a mask inside the building.

DOUBLE UP CHALLENGE: Update: As of right now, our challenge has raised $3,760.00  There are just a few more days left of our Double-Up Community Challenge. We’d like to meet our goal of $5,000 to double and give to our community. There are a few ways you can help.  1. Give to the challenge yourself! Go to: http://elmhurstchurch.org/double-up/ and follow the directions.  2. Share on Social Media! Go to our Facebook page and share the post about it!  3. Send an email to friends. Karen Miller even helped you out by writing the text:  Subject: Can you help support the Double Up Community Challenge?    Email:   My church, Elmhurst Presbyterian Church (EPC), is matching donations to three local non-profit organizations through the end of June. Can you help?   The Double Up Community Challenge is in response to the increased need in our area as a result of COVID-19. Choose from one of three local non-profits and EPC will match your donation from its giving pool. We’re working hard to exhaust our donation pool of $5,000.   Visit elmhurstchurch.org/double-up, click on the giving link and select one of these three non-profits from the pull down menu.

DuPage PADS - Provides interim and permanent housing and support services to end homelessness.

Elmhurst Walk-In Assistance Network - Connecting people in need to community resources.

Elmhurst Yorkfield Food Pantry - Providing food, compassion and hope to our neighbors and children in need.

If you’d like a donation letter for tax purposes, be sure to fill out the Google form via the link on elmhurstchurch.org/double-up. Let me know if you have questions.

With Grace and Peace this day,
