Thought of the Day, July 14, 2020

Posted by Traci Smith on

Thought of the Day: Christmas in July! Why not? I just put the finishing touches on an Advent and Christmas book for families that’s releasing this year, so I’ve had Christmas on the brain. It’s been interesting to think
about Christmas and Advent while sweating and in the heat. It reminded me, though, Christmas is all year! The theological concepts we talk about at Advent time are just as relevant and important now as they are in
December. So, for the rest of this week, I’ll talk a little about Advent. Today? Preparing for Christ to be born. During Advent, we think about waiting. I don’t know about you, but this COVID 19 time sure seems like a time of waiting. Done right, waiting can be a spiritual practice. We surrender to God all that we have tried to control, and acknowledge that we don’t have it all figured out. What are you waiting for these days?

MOVIE NIGHT: TOMORROW! Important note: We’d like to know how many are coming, so please let us know if you’ll be there. You can respond to this text, or let Pastor Traci or Emily know. For now, this is an EPC event. If it goes well, we might open it up. Lots of thanks to Emily for figuring out the logistics of this!

Since we’re having Movie Night, our Zoom call will be shortened on Wednesday, from 7:00 - 7:30
https://zoom.us/j/515981426

Don’t forget to Join us Online for Online Coffee Time at 11:30 on Sunday Mornings as well. HERE’s the link.

For Discussion: Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. Instead of discussing a whole book, we’ll take a look at the article “America’s Enduring Caste System” from the NYT. You can find it HERE. Join us. (Also, if you’ve not had a chance to take a look at the article, you’re still free to join the discussion.

See you soon,
Pastor Traci
