Thought of the Day, July 1, 2020

Posted by Traci Smith on

Thought of the Day: Prayer Journal. I’ve been reading a lot of memoirs in recent months. Right now I’m reading the memoir of pop singer Jessica Simpson. She was popular when I was in high school and college and I thought it would be a trip down memory lane to read her story. She talks a lot about her faith in the book as well. One part of the story I found deeply moving was when Jessica talked about her dear cousin, Sarah, who died young. After her death, the family found Sarah’s prayer journals which listed, by name, all the people she was praying for. It made me wonder… do you keep a prayer journal? I have, off and on, and this book inspired me to consider taking up the practice again… It’s nice to reflect on what we’ve been praying for and to keep a record.

ZOOM CHECK IN TONIGHT: Join us at 7:00 p.m. for our weekly Zoom check in.  For something a little different… tonight come prepared to talk about something interesting that you’ve read, watched or listened to in the last few weeks or month. Come prepared to talk about what it was, and why it was interesting to you. We’ll come away with a long list of things we want to watch or listen to. See you at 7:00! https://zoom.us/j/515981426

Prayers: We send prayers to Richard Irving, recovering in New York from COVID. (Thanks be to God for his recovery so far!)  Kathy Thompson, who is recovering from her biopsy. Chris Leonard and family, on the death of The Rev. Larry Leonard. Jan Palmer, who is recovering from hip surgery. We also lift up joys and concerns of our fellow EPC members. Hop on a Zoom call on Wednesday at 7p.m. or Sunday at 11:30 a.m. to check in with your people!

Sabbath Days: Pastor Traci will be out of the office on Tuesdays until further notice. You can always reach me in an emergency, but I’m going back to one full day off per week. (During COVID, I felt like I was taking a little time off, here and there, but never one full day at a time. I decided to go back to this, and Tuesdays is a good, albeit weird, day off!)

Office Hours: In general I will be in the office from 10:30 - 2:30 (and often beyond) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, but it’s best to give a ring or text at 630.643.6045 if you’re wanting to be sure to see me. Jasmyn is remote for the next two weeks, and Emily is in and out as well. When you come in the building, please wear a mask, sign in at the sign in table, and use the sanitizer provided.
