Thought for the Day, September 19, 2020

Posted by Traci Smith on

Thought of the Day: Hymn Week. This week I decided to share some of the lines from my favorite hymns. What are your favorite hymns? I’d love to know. In this age of COVID, we’ll have to be creative about how we sing together, but music is as important now as ever.
I hope you’ve enjoyed hymn week! Now that it’s over, I’m realizing I could probably go another week or two at least, but I’ll do something else next week. Today, a final favorite from Take My Life and Let it Be: Take my will and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne. It shall be thy royal throne.
I can’t really put my finger on what I love about this hymn, but I do have a really funny story about it. When my children were really little, I would sing hymns to them, all the time. They would ask for them, on demand. One time I was at a restaurant with the boys and Clayton requested “Take my life and let it be” and I didn’t want to sing it. He started shouting TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE in the middle of the restaurant. We got some stares. HERE’s a video of the boys singing it when they were about that age. (It’s an unlisted video, so you need to get to it through that link. :)

● TODAY!! Deacon’s Food Drive. Please stop by between 10-12 with your contributions for the Food Drive! One of the things that stands out to me as a request for the food pantry is tomato sauce in CANS — they prefer it to the glass because of breakage. Also, please note that the food pantry is always
looking for shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant and other hygiene items. If you need a special pickup, please contact the church office at — IDEA: Put it on Facebook to see if your neighbors want to contribute.
