Report From The Clerk of Session
Dear Elmhurst Presbyterian Church Member,
On June 24th Elmhurst Presbyterian Church held a congregational meeting after the service in the sanctuary. A quorum was (more than) present and the congregation echoed the Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) and our Session by voting to call Traci Smith as full-time pastor to EPC.
Traci is an experienced solo pastor who will be coming to us from a church in San Antonio, Texas. She has also served as an associate pastor in Detroit. A native of Naperville and Batavia, she has also been a children/youth minister here in the Chicago area. Traci was graduated from the Princeton Theological Seminary after her time at Calvin College, where she took a double major in social work and Spanish. Traci has served in Columbia and is bilingual. She is married — her husband is a native of Columbia who has completed his own Masters of Divinity and is working toward ordination as a Presbyterian pastor. They have two school aged sons and a daughter who will be two on her next birthday.
Pastor Debbie Paton as moderator for the congregational meeting. Her last Sunday with us will be August 12th and her service as interim pastor will conclude on August 31st. Traci will begin on September 1st.
The congregation also voted to accept Traci’s Terms of Call, which had been previously approved by the Session and reviewed by the moderator of our Board of Trustees.
The congregation also voted to dissolve the PNC with thanks to its members Patti Berner, Tim Christopher, Doug Fitzgerald, Bob Miller, Twana Rundle, Cami Streuter, and Trish Waters.
On Sunday, September 9th the Deacons will be organizing a picnic on the grounds after the service. The theme will be Happy Days, and this will be an ideal time to reconnect with EPC members who have scattered for the summer and to meet Traci Smith and her family. Please mark your calendar and watch for more information.
